The NASCAR public relations machine has been hyping the arrival of Joey Logano, the 18-year-old driver from Connecticut, to the Nationwide Series for over a year. Although Logano was impressive in winning in his third Nationwide start at Kentucky Speedway, his debut has been anti-climatic due to the fact that “the future is now” and his name is Kyle Busch.
Although I wish Logano the best of luck in his racing career, I am not going to be tuning in to watch a young driver develop, especially when Joe Gibbs Racing teammate, Kyle Busch, is the most dominant driver in the sport – and the most exciting.
At the age of 23, Kyle Busch has 11 wins across NASCAR’s top 3 series half way through the 2008 season (5 wins in the Sprint Cup) and has proved to be versatile by winning on every type of track and dominant by leading the series in wins and laps led.
If you analyze the criticism of Kyle Busch, it is apparent that jealousy is the underlying issue (fans and drivers jealous of his dominance). Kyle Busch is a racer who is determined to win at all costs and I love it. In a recent interview, Kyle was quoted as saying, “I'm used to racing all day, every day, all the time…it's just who I am. I want to be on a racetrack. It's cool to win any race. I don't care what it is, I just want to take home a trophy. That's all I care about."
Kyle Busch will never be the most popular driver in NASCAR, but time will prove him to be one of the all time greats and a Sprint Cup champion several times over.
